Phase 2 HEARTS trial: MRgART, MRI-guided adaptive radiotherapy targeting cardiac sparing in thoracic cancers.
- Trial ID
- NCT07132918 on ClinicalTrials.gov
- Cancer type
- Thoracic Cancers
- Stage of research
- Exploratory
- Location
- University of Wisconsin (Madison)

This study compares an investigational MRgART that uses real-time imaging adjustments to spare the heart with standard LINAC radiation therapy employing stereotactic external beam delivery. Eligible patients include those with NSCLC, esophageal/esophagogastric cancer, and thymic tumors. Conducted by University of Wisconsin, Madison, it aims to determine whether adaptive radiotherapy reduces cardiac impact in thoracic cancers; cardiac dose is a key driver of late events after thoracic RT—MR-guided adaptation could cut heart exposure without compromising tumor control.
