This pilot trial by Smart Breast Corp. compares supplemental molecular breast imaging (MBI) to standard digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) for cancer detection in women with dense breasts (BIRADS C or D). Participants receive both screenings and, if indicated, are randomly assigned to either DBT-guided or MBI-guided biopsy. Today, dense-breast screening typically relies on mammography/DBT (with ultrasound or MRI in select cases); MBI isn’t routine. The study asks whether MBI can detect additional cancers and better steer biopsies than DBT, potentially improving accuracy in this harder-to-image group.
