Lu-177 Edotreotide Preserves QoL Better Than Everolimus in GEP-NETs

Trial ID
NCT03049189 on ClinicalTrials.gov
Cancer type

Lutetium Lu-177 edotreotide is an SSTR-targeted peptide receptor radionuclide therapy compared with everolimus in the Phase 3 COMPETE trial (NCT03049189) for grade 1/2 well-differentiated gastroenteropancreatic NETs. Mean global health/QoL change favored Lu-177 edotreotide (0.9 vs −9.9; nominal p<0.0001), and time to clinically meaningful QoL deterioration was longer (10.25 vs 2.27 months; HR 0.392). The comparator is active: everolimus previously delivered median PFS ~11.0 months vs 3.9 months with placebo in RADIANT-4, so the QoL result helps show that PRRT benefit is not being bought at the expense of patient-reported function.

Take home

COMPETE strengthens the case for PRRT in well-differentiated GEP-NETs by showing not just disease control, but a patient-experienced advantage over everolimus.
