In the phase III FALCON trial, postmenopausal, endocrine therapy-naïve women with HR+/HER2– advanced breast cancer showed similar overall survival (median OS 44.8 vs 42.7 months; HR 0.97, P = .7579) between fulvestrant and anastrozole, with a subgroup of nonvisceral disease patients exhibiting a non-significant trend toward improved OS with fulvestrant.
The key takeaway is that while fulvestrant remains a valuable endocrine therapy option, its overall survival benefit over anastrozole is not statistically confirmed, though patients with nonvisceral disease might experience greater long-term clinical benefit.
